Introduction:

An exciting journey back into
the centuries, touching the roots of Bulgaria and ancient architectural
silhouettes is blended with the modern urban environment.
On this tour we will explore the ancient cities of Bulgaria and the modern
cities such as Sofia. Starting in the current capital we will then continue to
Plovdiv crossing through the Rodophi mountains. On the way we will make a
stop at Rila Monastery; built in the 10th century, the largest and the
oldest of the Bulgarian Monasteries. All the symbols of Bulgarian spirit can be
seen in the town of Plovdiv; remnants of Thracian, Greek and Roman civilizations
can be found here.
Next we will head towards the Black Sea. First stopping in the quaint fishing
village of Nessebar; a picturesque town on a peninsula. Ruins of medieval
churches can be found here which are included in the UNESCO World heritage list.
After we will then finish the day in Varna; the capital of the Black Sea
Coast. From here we will go to Aladja rock monastery and Shumen to
visit the Tombul Mosque.
A
visit to Bulgaria would not be complete with a stop at Veliko Tarnovo.
Turnovo is among the most visited cities in
Bulgaria.
The old capital of the Bulgarian Kingdom during the 12th-14th centuries, Turnovo
has been the living symbol of Bulgarian statehood over the ages. Part of the
territory of Veliko Turnovo has been declared a museum reserve with three zones,
also including the territory of the village of Arbanassi. The two main medieval
fortresses rose on Tsarevets and Trapezitsa hills. The strong fortifications
guaranteed the security of “the inner town”, spreading on the two hills.
The tour will end in Sofia where your personal local driver will say the final
good-bye. This tour is customizable and can be adjusted upon your request. For
more details please refer to the "Day by Day Itinerary".
